Vikasana, the social service initiative by the students of IIM Bangalore, was set up in 1990 with the aim of providing teaching lessons for the children of the construction workers on campus. Twenty-six years since then, with every new batch of students, Vikasana has reached many milestones. It has enhanced its scope of activity by including an annual scholarship to deserving and needy children; fundraising for NGOs; providing voluntary teaching/art & craft lessons to the students of local schools/NGOs outside IIM-B and creating awareness in the student community towards the importance of working for social causes.
Vikasana encourages active volunteering from the IIMB student community. The team at Vikasana is responsible for organizing various activities and making the necessary logistical arrangements. However, everyone is invited to be part of the activities and help us in successful execution. If you are one of those who derive pleasure from bringing smiles on the faces of lesser privileged people, volunteering for Vikasana activities could be the ideal avenue for your non-academic pursuits in IIM Bangalore.
Vikasana collects old books (novels / textbooks / notebooks), clothes, newspapers and money, and sends them to a number of NGOs. We have been actively involved in disaster relief efforts, such as the recent Uttarakhand floods, wherein we collected clothes and other materials from the IIMB community. If you would like to donate material, or if you know of any NGO who would benefit from donations, please get in touch with us!
“Vikasana defines my journey at IIMB - From joy of sharing smiles in those small moments spent with needy to the impact our skill set could have in a way never thought of before. Daan Utsav to Prerna, the experience has made me humble and grateful at every step.”
“The experience working in Vikasana was perhaps my biggest takeway from IIMB. The opportunity to work with a bunch of like-minded peers to impact the society in our own small way was a very satisfying experience at the end of two years of a rigorous B-School life. Glad that Daan Utsav that we started celebrating at campus has now gone on to become a regular affair with increased vigor.”
“Vikasana represents a responsible and proactive initiative of the students towards contribution to the society. We at Vikasana believe that it is important to help humanitarian causes by volunteering efforts to make a difference to the local ecosystem.”
“Vikasana was the highlight of my IIM-B experience. It gave me friends and memories for a lifetime, blessings and the good will of multiple beneficiaries and the respect of batchmates and faculty. It also taught me leadership skills, dealing with failures and collaborating with others to reach a common goal. Overall, it was great to spend 2 years of my life with people who shared a common passion of social welfare.”
